During an unprecedented time of remote learning and increased isolation due to the pandemic, Moxie helps children practice essential social skills at home.

Children are given the role of a robot mentor to Moxie who is on a mission to learn how to be a good friend to humans. As a mentor, your child will help Moxie complete missions that promote communication, listening, turn-taking, and other crucial relationship skills. Using advanced conversational technology, Moxie engages in open conversation to help mentors practice these essential social skills in real-time.

Mentors are then encouraged to share and apply what they've learned with friends and family. It’s for this reason that we say Moxie acts as a “springboard to life” - the skills learned with Moxie can make a real impact in the child’s relationships with others.

Anxiety and stress can have a negative impact on a child’s emotional development, and that’s why Moxie helps equip children with emotion regulation skills they need when difficult situations arise.

Moxie uses several mindfulness and calming techniques including: breathing exercises, like animal breaths, which help children learn how to regulate difficult emotions one breath at a time, and meditations, which take children through visualization exercises to learn how to calm down and focus. Children have fun doing these activities with Moxie, and they build tools that can be applied to their everyday lives!

Moxie also helps support emotional skills by encouraging open dialogue about how your child is feeling so they learn to identify and vocalize their emotions, whether it’s happy and excited or sad and lonely. This dialogue allows children to practice sharing and can foster more open communication at home.

Your child will be able to converse with Moxie without fear of judgement. Moxie never runs out of patience and can provide a safe space for children who may struggle with communication and socialization. Your child's role as a mentor to Moxie provides a sense of responsibility and helps them build self-confidence and allows them to solidify the social and emotional skills they are learning.

In addition, Moxie invites children to recite positive affirmations. By repeating positive affirmations such as, “I am brave,” and “I am strong,” children get in the habit of replacing unhelpful and negative thought patterns with productive and empowering ones, and that helps build confidence, resilience, and self-esteem!

Moxie supports the development of critical thinking skills through open-ended conversations that encourage interpretations, inferences, explanations, comparisons, and problem-solving.

Moxie may ask reading comprehension questions after a child reads one of the book club books to Moxie. Moxie also shares stories about friends at the Global Robotics Laboratory (G.R.L.) and opens dialogue to discuss social-emotional themes and conflict resolution.

Unstructured play such as creative drawing activities and imagination building help develop original thinking. Moxie will also encourage creative movement through fun activities such as dancing.

Moxie engages your child in playtime through conversation and joint activities. Instead of passively staring at a screen, your child will be encouraged to actively engage with Moxie in daily activities that focus on discussion and creative play such as drawing and skill-building games

Activities are purposefully paced to discourage binging and help families connect by encouraging children to share what they've been learning with others.
